Job Description
We are seeking a motivated and compassionate Mental Health Support Worker to join our team in Stoke-on-Trent. This full-time role is dedicated to providing support to individuals with complex mental health needs, including those with challenging behaviours and learning disabilities.
The successful candidate will work alongside qualified healthcare professionals to provide person-centred care and maintain a safe, therapeutic environment. This role will particularly focus on ensuring safety through effective CPI de-escalation techniques and managing ligature risks.
Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver safe, compassionate care according to individual care plans.
  • Assist with personal care routines that promote dignity and independence.
  • Respond to challenging behaviour using approved CPI techniques.
  • Respond swiftly and effectively to ligature incidents using approved intervention techniques.
  • Monitor and report changes in the physical and mental health of service users.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and contribute to care planning and reviews.
  • Ensure a clean and safe environment, following health and safety protocols.
  • Collaborate effectively with other healthcare professionals within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Participate in team handovers and professional development activities.
  • Uphold safeguarding principles and participate in risk management strategies.
Essential Qualifications and Requirements
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) certified or NAPPI (Non-Abusive Psychological and Physical Intervention) trained.
  • Ligature Awareness and Response Training
  • Care Certificate (completed or willingness to complete upon hire).
  • At least 1 year of experience in a mental health or social care setting.
  • Ability to work flexible shifts, including nights, weekends, and bank holidays.
  • Willingness to travel outside Stoke-on-Trent if required.
  • Legal right to work in the UK (sponsorship is not available).
  • Full UK driving licence with access to a vehicle.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
  • NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care (or equivalent).
  • Emergency First Aid at Work Level 3 certification.
  • Experience supporting individuals with mental health conditions or challenging behaviours.
  • Previous experience in Complex Mental Health needs.
